कान्तिपथ

The video-sharing social media platform TikTok has officially registered in Nepal.

TikTok submitted the required documents, and as a result, it has recently been formally registered, confirmed Gajendra Kumar Thakur, the spokesperson and deputy secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

According to the Ministry, TikTok has been registered in accordance with the regulations for managing social media platforms.

Earlier, on October 13, 2023, the government had decided to ban TikTok in Nepal, citing concerns about its spread of inappropriate content. However, the ban was lifted on August 21, 2024, and TikTok was allowed to operate under certain conditions.

With this recent registration, TikTok has completed the necessary formalities and agreed to operate officially in Nepal.

Now that it is officially registered, the government will also be able to collect revenue from TikTok. The government can now issue immediate directives to TikTok to remove any objectionable content that appears on the platform.

Currently, TikTok’s Singapore office is responsible for overseeing operations in Nepal.-AI Photo
